OUR MEDIA CENTER
The Anderson County Middle School Library Media Center has been recently transformed into a "Collaborative Learning Space", instead of what most would consider a traditional library. The new space, known as "The Paddock", since we are Home of the Mustangs, allows students and teachers to utilize the LMC for a more project-based approach to learning. Along with bookshelves housing fiction, nonfiction, and biographical books, we have 3 common areas in the LMC - a space for collaboration, a space for creation, and a space for presentation.
The collaboration area features a large rug, comfortable couches, tables, and ottomans that are lightweight and mobile and can be arranged in many configurations to allow for different types of group work and collaboration.
The creation area features cabinets which hold miscellaneous "maker" items for students to use to create many different types of projects. Items range from pencils, markers, crayons, glue, and scissors, to craft sticks, yarn, felt, pipe cleaners, spools, wood pieces, Legos, connector straws, and aluminum foil. Students can use any of the standing butcher block tables to work on their creations. Students can also create digital projects using the iMac computers and color printer, as well as the Makerbot 3-D Printer and a permanently mounted green screen. The Paddock also houses 2 carts with 30 Chromebooks each and a cart of 30 iPads.
The presentation area features tables with white dry-erase board tops that allow for lots of ideas and brainstorming! The tables also have lockable caster wheels so that they can be easily moved and rearranged to fit any work or presentation need. The chairs are lightweight and stackable, which again allows for ease of movement and transformation of the space. This area also has a mounted screen and projector for presenting digital projects or information as well as 2, 50" televisions, both with AppleTV, which is linked to the iPads and iPods that are housed in the media center.
